Here are some images of the practice game I put on for the upcoming 28 May November Uprising refight of the 1st Battle of Warsaw to be held at the War Room.
Mal and Mark were on the Polish side, with Phil and Simon on the Russian. The scenario was the Battle of Dębe Wielkie (31 March 1831) with the Poles attempting to capture the town, situated across a river. While they failed to do so, we had an enjoyable evening's play - using my 'Unruly Eagles' rules and 40mm figures.
Late in the game, with all reinforcements having arrived
Ramorino's Polish infantry brigade (we used a random medley of historical commanders)
Ramorino's brigade (Mark's command)
Roland's brigade (Mark's command)
Russian cavalry brigade - cuirassiers, dragoons, lancers (Simon's command)
Kicki's Polish cavalry brigade (Mal's command)
Mal's infantry brigade - 1st class units
Mid-way in the game - Phil advances on the Poles, forming square on his flank
Early in the game - Poles squander a chance to take the bridge
Mal's Polish cavalry and infantry advance against the Russian right
Mal's infantry confront Phil's grenadiers in the woods
Russian reinforcements - a brigade of Cossacks
View from Phil's position - on the Russian right
Mal's Polish cavalry brigade advances
Phil's grenadiers attack Mal's infantry
Ramorino's Polish infantry brigade (Mark's command) advance to the river line
The fight for the woods continues
Roland's infantry brigade (Mark's command) advances on the bridge
Indecisive fight for the woods continuing
Mark forms his Polish reinforcements into square to forestall Simon's cavalry on the flank
Phil takes the fight to the Poles: Russian grenadiers attack through the woods
Phil puts pressure on Mark's infantry attempting to take the bridge
Unexpected jollity... ;-)
Near end of play
Phil's Cossacks attack (and push back) Polish cavalry
Thanks to all who turned out on the night. The 28 May game will be twice as big and hopefully twice as fun!
